On 23 November, MJBC played its first competitive matches of the season, entering 2 teams in a team tournament event at the Kirkby in Ashfield Leisure centre. The format of the tournament was like those held in previous years and much enjoyed by players and clubs alike. This time the competition was for players (2 boys and 2 girls) in the 7/8 and 9/10 age categories. Teams from 2 other clubs also took part with all the teams playing each other.

After the first round of games the Mansfield 1^st team had a 5-point lead which was maintained through the second round and extended to 6 points, after playing our hardest match in the final round, to achieve an unexpected win in the competition. Well done to all our players who did themselves and the club proud, particularly Ruby and Ethan who both won all their games on the day. For many of our players this was the first time they had experienced competitive badminton, and it was great to see their commitment, enthusiasm, and sense of fair play, even when a game was lost.
